Remembrance Sunday

Sunday November 10th

A large contingent from Verwood Concert Brass marched through the town to the War Memorial playing the Royal British Legion March.  The whole troupe was made up of hundreds of people and there were many more waiting to take part in the short service.  On a very beautiful sunny Sunday, it was a privilege to lead the parade. (Thanks to Anne Parsons for the photograph below)

Torrential Rain did not Dampen Spirits!

Saturday November 9th

The Training Band Coffee Morning was one of the best ever and despite the cloudburst outside, the audience flocked in to pack the Memorial Hall in Verwood and there they stayed. Who could blame them on a miserable November day when there was so much good music to hear.

The tombola sold out, the cake stall sold out  and Sally and her kitchen team didn't stop.  The music didn't stop either as soloists performed during the break. All in all very good value for just £1 which included a cup of coffee AND a biscuit.

Thanks Pam for calm and efficient organisation as always.

Let's Get Quizzical!

Richard Mullins and his family team organised a great quiz night at Parley Sports and Social Club on 26th October.

Many VCB banders with family and friends put their grey cells to the test to battle for supremacy.  In the end it was a close run thing with a tie breaker to decide the outright winners.

A great deal of hard work went into the evening and this was appreciated.  Cheers Team Mullins!

BRITANNIA RULES THE WAVES

October 5th 2013

A packed audience at the Verwood Hub raved about our Autumn Proms concert which went down a storm.  The Training Band played an encore as they were so good and the audience felt that this was the B Band's best performance to date.

Sophie Howes played a magnificent cornet solo in Share My Yoke by Major Joy Webb, arranged by Ivor Bosanko and Ian Harris again showed his brilliance with his euphonium solo in Rule Britannia.

The audience demanded an encore and were thrilled to hear 633 Squadron, which was not in the original programme.

The evening was extremely successful and we all look forward to our Christmas concert on 21st December.

The New CD

The Band spent a long weekend in the Bandroom of the Portsmouth Royal Marines in the naval dockyards at the end of August.  This is as a celebration of our 150th year in 2014 and it should be ready in time for Christmas - Watch This Space!
